MDF as an Outsourcing Partner

A publisher of a regional magazine and related books, who also resells local gift items, was at a crossroads in their business. Due to the increase in business volume, they had reached the point where they were looking at increasing the size of their current internal fulfillment center, acquiring and implementing an improved inventory system, and integrating this with both order processing and corporate accounting, to provide real time information.
MDF met with members of the company’s management team to understand their business and the objectives they wished to accomplish. MDF proposed an alternative to expanding their physical plant, while at the same time enabling them to exercise greater control and accountability over their processes, while allowing them to concentrate on their core business.
The solution was to outsource the complete fulfillment function, where all the inventory would be moved to its facility in Bristol, CT, freeing up the necessary space at the client’s facility and reducing/eliminating the associated costs. In addition we proposed our web based fulfillment solution for managing the inventory, order and payment processing from various sales channels, and providing real time information for inventory status, order processing, and timely data transfers to update their internal accounting and reporting systems.
Going beyond our core systems and facilities, MDF has assumed responsibility for the processing of customer returns, the catalog orders received by mail, and handling customer credit card issues. We have worked with their accounting department to assure that all of the data is transferred into their system, and have taken on more and more of their activities to support the fulfillment process.
By outsourcing these activities, our client was able to:

o become more efficient
o concentrate on its core business
o significantly improve overall reporting and accountability
o easily update their accounting system by electronically importing e-commerce transactions
o increase customer satisfaction levels.
