Industry News
Effective April 3rd , 2005 the U.S. Postal Service is allowing Direct Mailers to affix repositionable notes or RPN’s onto the outside envelope or paper cover, calling added attention to a product or service. RPN’s provide mailers a unique way to increase “open and read” rates, thus leading to increased response rates. Additionally, RPN’s add to the life of the marketing message making it easy for the recipient to remove the note and reposition it to a convenient place to serve as a reminder or call to action well beyond the life of the original mailpiece.
RPN’s must measure 3 inches by 3 inches for First-Class Mail, Standard Mail, or Periodical mailpieces, and must be adhered with a ¾ inch adhesive strip across the top portion on the reverse side of the note. These notes must not be manually affixed or be placed in an area that interferes with the delivery address or postage. No phosphorescent or red fluorescent colorants can be used.
The additional rates are $.005 (1/2cent) per piece for attaching an RPN to a First –Class Mail piece and $.015 (1-1/2 cents) per piece for attaching an RPN to a Standard Mail or Periodicals piece.
Repositionable Notes are great for getting attention by using them as a removable device affixed to a reply card or as a coupon that can be redeemed. You can find more about RPN’s by contacting your Postal Service.
